Getting Organized; A Spiritual Practice Part Two

Organizing your week and your day is a spiritual practice. Your days matter.

Last Sunday I wrote about how I plan for my week. You can read it here.

I do a version of the same thing every day.

I believe reflection helps us to know ourselves better.

There is nobody better to know than yourself.

At the end of my work day I spend 10-15 minutes reflecting.

Who did I touch in a positive way today?
What exactly did I get done?
Did I procrastinate? If so, how can I make friends with that fear? (Procrastination  is just fear.)
When did I feel great today?
Did I stick to my schedule?
What did I learn?
Is there anything I want to change for tomorrow?

Then I look at tomorrow's schedule. I tweak anything I can to make sure I feel successful.

I don't care what you do for work. Through that work you are sharing yourself with the world. Our world, more than ever, needs someone who is reflecting.

Our world needs YOU reflecting on how YOU make this world a better place each and every day!

Thank you!

Many blessings,
Virginia

Monday's Course in Miracles

My daily spiritual practice includes studying the Course in Miracles. Each Monday I share a quote from the text.

Let me recognize my problems have been solved. ACIM

A Thought

My daily spiritual practice includes reading a lesson from The Course of Miracles, meditating and writing in my journal.

This morning's lesson was a doozy:

" I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts" ACIM

This is such a true and simple statement yet so profound and difficult to live by. It really isn't about what is going on around us. It is about how we choose to think about what is going on around us. It was such a great reminder for me to quiet my monkey mind, pay attention and most importantly let things be exactly as they are.

These breathtaking hibiscus blooms from my garden reminded me as well.

I thought the plant was grossly diseased and needed to be yanked (note the leaves).  I would have missed so much beauty.

Blessings,
Virginia

Cleaning: A Spiritual Practice

I spent most of today cleaning. This wasn't the basic Saturday's  chore cleaning. This was an all out deep clean and clear out endeavor. I cleaned in places that nobody would ever see. I even cleaned behind the fridge.

As I scrubbed, tossed stuff in the garbage, and tossed stuff in the Goodwill box, I knew I was doing something much bigger than cleaning my house. I was also shining up my perceived dark parts of my soul and making room for even more goodness to come into my life.

I found many treasures within myself and one physical treasure that got me teary. The beautiful little pot my 20 year older made for me when he was in fifth grade now is a focal point of my kitchen.

Anything can bring you back to spirit, even cleaning.

Blessings,
Virginia

A Daily Spiritual Practice

Many of the great spiritual leaders suggest that everyone commit to a daily spiritual practice.

The term itself creates images of sitting in yoga poses for hours on end. The good news is, it is not that. A daily spiritual practice is something you do everyday to quiet your mind.

Personally, I like having two daily practices.  One in the evening and one at night. I call them the book ends of my day.

In the morning,  I drink my coffee outside. I  also read from A Course In Miracles, write and pray.

Before I go to bed I write a short note of gratitude.  If there is something on my mind I ask God to take it so I can sleep.

In total, this is less than one hour out of the 24 hours I have each day.

However, it is the most well spent hour of the day.  It puts me in a peaceful place. When I feel peace and joy I am more able to share those gifts with everyone I meet.

I encourage you to try something to do each day that will quiet your mind.  Even five minutes in nature everyday has the power to change the world.

Blessings,
Virginia
